The Seventh Tradition of Alcoholics Anonymous states A.A. groups ought to be fully supported by the voluntary contributions of their own members. We do not solicit contributions from outside sources or third parties.

AA members are encouraged to contribute what they can to “the basket” at each meeting ($1-$3 if possible) to cover the group’s expenses (rent, coffee, literature) and to routinely support A.A.’s outreach through its service entities (District, Area, General Service Office) which carry the message to active alcoholics in search of a solution to their alcoholism.

A.A. groups holding onto treasuries, beyond prudent reserves, are encouraged to divest their holdings appropriately to enable the work of A.A. to be done expeditiously. Experience has shown us that nothing can so surely destroy our spiritual heritage as futile disputes over property, money, and authority. It is up to your informed group conscience to decide how your group will distribute funds collected from individual A.A. members during meetings. Possible divisions to consider are:

60% to District, 30% to Area, 10% to General Service Office (GSO)
50% to District, 30% to Area, 20% to GSO
40% to District, 30% to Area, 30% to GSO
30% to District, 30$ to Area, 30% to GSO, 10% Intergroup
